World Children's Day

The World Children’s Day is celebrated in Germany and Austria on 20 September and goes back to a United Nations initiative in 1954 to draw attention to the rights and well-being of children. In over 40 countries, 1 June is International Children's Day.

World Children's Day raises awareness of the special needs of children and their rights in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Many cities organise festivals with play and learning opportunities as well as cultural activities that focus on children's rights such as education and protection from violence. Organisations use the day to draw attention to child poverty and education.

Since 2019, Thuringia, where the German logistics centre is located, has been the only German federal state in which World Children's Day is a public holiday. In Erfurt, Thuringia, World Children's Day is celebrated with a huge children's festival, at which BIG and Smoby Toys also participated as part of their Event Tour 2024.
